Clemson Escapes FSU Comeback

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - New Clemson quarterback Cullen Harper threw two touchdown passes in Clemson's 24-18 upset of 19th-ranked Florida State in the latest renewal of the Bowden Bowl.

Harper completed 14 of 24 passes for 161 yards and two scores. James Davis led the Tigers ground attack with 102 yards and one TD on 18 carries.

The Tigers completely shut down a retooled Florida State offense, holding the Seminoles without a first down in the opening half.

But after Clemson opened a 24-3 lead early in the second half, Florida State put on a furious second-half rally to make it close at the end.

Clemson coach Tommy Bowden now has won four of last five meetings against his legendary father, Bobby. But the elder Bowden still holds a 5-4 lifetime advantage.
