University of Florida golfer Tyson Alexander (Gainesville, Fla.) is part of the U.S.A. team which claimed the 2010 Palmer Cup over Europe by a final score of 13-11 Saturday at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

The Palmer Cup is a Ryder-cup style tournament that pits the top American and European collegiate golfers. The eight-member U.S. team is made up of the nation’s top collegiate players. The victory was the USA’s first in Europe since 2002 and gives the USA a 7-6-1 overall advantage in the Palmer Cup series.

Each side claimed four matches in the final day of singles action. Andrea Pavan, a native of Italy who played collegiately at Texas A&M, claimed a 2 and 1 victory over Alexander on Saturday.

In the first day of action at the Palmer Cup, Alexander won both his four-ball and foursome matches helping Team USA take a 6-2 lead over Team Europe. Yesterday, Alexander provided the U.S. with a key 2 and 1 win over Patrick Spraggs in singles match play.

In 2010, Alexander was a PING All-America honorable mention selection. He also was named to the All-Southeastern Conference first team and made his second consecutive year appearance on the PING All-Region Team. The senior was part of the Gator team that finished tied for 11th at the NCAA Championships.
