RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Willie Copeland passed for 252 yards
and scored two touchdowns to lead Valdosta State to a 28-to-27 win
over Arkansas Tech Saturday afternoon.
The Blazers (3-0, 1-0) remained scoreless through the first half
of the game at Buerkle Field until Copeland scored twice in the
third quarter on 9-yard and 1-yard runs.
The Wonder Boys (3-1, 1-1) scored no points in the fourth
The Wonder Boys struck early in the game, with a 1-yard run by
Cole Barthel in less than three minutes.
They followed up with another score off a Barthel pass to Chris
Gunter about three minutes later.
Barthel ended up connecting on 24 of 41 passes, gaining 235
yards through the air and throwing one interception.
In the fourth quarter, Valdosta State got help from both Michael
Terry and Ronnye Nelson for two touchdown runs.
Copeland completed 30 of 44 passes, with one interception.
