Tallahassee, FL - FSU golf had their deepest run ever earlier this year when they fell short of a national championship as they fell to Augusta State 4-1 in the semifinal round. Now, the team has improved just by adding Layne Savoie as an assistant coach.
FSU head golf coach Trey Jones says, "I've admired Layne from recruiting against him and coaching against him, and this is a great deal for all of us."
Savoie helped lead the University of Arkansas to a runner-up finish at the 2009 NCAA Championship, but all that success did not keep him there.

"It wasn't a real hard decision to make. We were successful back in Arkansas, and I felt it was time to make another move, and fortunately Florida State called."
Jones says Savoie is a master of breaking down a golf swing.
Savoie says, "I've been all over and practicing is my thing. So, I look at it with a critical eye. This is a special place for anybody to work out of. So, it's a dream to come to a place like this every day and work with athletes."
Jones adds, "It's going to help in recruiting because being able to break down the golf swing to know who has potential to improve a lot or who has a lot of work to do. It just goes a long way."
Going a long way is good, but going all the way and winning a national title... well, that's the goal for the Garnet and Gold.

Sounds like Trey is getting hungry for that national championship doesn't it. He knows what it takes and that is talent ---- good recruiting is the key. Whatever it takes to bring the world's best golfers to FSU I'll support. Keep up the good work Trey -- I love your commitment to our great university !!!
