Bulldogs Crush Commodores, 48-3

Athens, GA - The fifth-ranked University of Georgia football team improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference with a 48-3 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 92,746 and a nationally-televised ESPN2 audience. Vanderbilt drops to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the SEC.

Aaron Murray led the passing attack, finishing with 250 yards and two touchdowns on 18-for-24 passing. Murray spread the ball around, with nine players recording a catch. Marlon Brown led the way with five catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. Tavarres King added 58 yards and a touchdown on four catches. Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall led a balanced rushing attack, with Gurley finishing with 130 yards and two touchdowns and Marshall totaling 82 yards on 10 carries and a pair of touchdowns. It was Gurley's third 100-yard rushing game of the season. As a team, Georgia racked up 567 yards of total offense, including 302 yards on the ground.

Jarvis Jones led the Bulldogs defensively, finishing with seven tackles, including four solo stops and three tackles for a loss. Amarlo Herrera also totaled seven tackles, including six solo stops and one tackle for a loss. Michael Gilliard racked up six stops.

Georgia jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter on a four-yard run by Gurley. A 22-yard punt return and a 16-yard reception by King set up the touchdown.

Vanderbilt was flagged for roughing the kicker, which kept Georgia's second drive alive. Marshall took it 52 yards for a touchdown that put the Bulldogs on top 13-0.

The Bulldogs made it a 20-0 game on a seven-play, 52-yard drive that included 22 rushing yards by Gurley and was capped off with a 22-yard touchdown grab by King.

With just over five minutes left in the second quarter, Murray led the Bulldogs on a 12-play, 96-yard scoring drive that put Georgia up 27-0. A 20-yard run by Ken Malcome and a 6-yard grab by King helped set up the score.

The Commodores broke up the shutout with a 29-yard field goal by Casey Spear with 1:51 left in the first half that made it a 27-3 game.

The Bulldogs drove 63 yards on 10 plays and used 3:34 to make it a 34-3 game with just under nine minutes left in the third quarter. During the drive, Gurley rushed for 12 yards and Chris Conley hauled in a 13-yard pass that set the Bulldogs up at the Vanderbilt five. Murray found Marlon Brown in the end zone for the touchdown.

Georgia got the ball back on downs at its own 39-yard line and got down to the Vanderbilt five on a 58-yard completion by Murray to Brown. Marshall finished the drive with a two-yard touchdown run. Following the PAT, Georgia took a 41-3 lead with 6:03 left in the third quarter.

After getting the ball back on a missed field goal, Georgia scored on a three-play, 71-yard drive that saw Gurley go over 100 yards in the game on a 29 yard touchdown run that gave Georgia a 48-3 lead.

Georgia will be back in action next Saturday when it takes on Tennessee at 3:30 p.m., in Sanford Stadium. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
