Browns Summit, NC - Freshman Matilda Castren finished in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings, and the Florida State women’s golf team finished in fourth place in the team standings as play in the Bryan National Collegiate on the Champions Course at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center came to a close. The Seminoles defeated nine ranked teams in what was clearly their best performance of the year. Castren earned her sixth consecutive top-10 individual finish of her freshman season.

“This was a great tournament and was a big week for us,” said head coach Amy Bond. “Today the conditions were extremely difficult and I am very proud of the way the girls fought through it. We had a chance to win when we started the day which is what we strive for every tournament. We beat nine teams ranked ahead of us and finished fourth so I consider this tournament a huge success. We gained a great deal of confidence and know that we can compete with anyone.”

Third ranked Duke won their team championship with a 21-stroke victory over No. 8 South Carolina. The Seminoles finished in fourth place and as the third highest ranking ACC team. The Seminoles finished ahead of No. 31 Virginia (fifth place), No. 13 Clemson (tied for sixth), No. 27 North Carolina (12th place) and No. 23 ranked NC State (13th place). Celine Boutier of Duke won the individual championship with an even par score of 216. She finished with a score of 73 in the final round.

The tough conditions were evident in the scores in the third round. Duke carded the lowest team score of the round – a 12 over par score of 300 -- and only one golfer in the field of 93 played even par golf.

Castren managed to stay in the top 10 of the individual standings despite shooting a 7 over par score of 79. She totaled only one birdie after carding five in the first two rounds. Castren totaled 10 holes scored at par or better in the final round.

Junior Alex Milan finished in a tie for 12th place in the individual standings with a three round total of 224. She carded scores of 73-72-79. She played her best golf on her back nine as she carded eight consecutive holes of even par golf and finished with 12 holes scored at par or better during the round.
