David Murray Named GSC Player of the Week

Valdosta, Ga. - David Murray put together one of the most memorable shooting performances in recent memory on Saturday night at The Complex. That outing, paired with a 14 point tally against Delta State on Thursday, notched an average of 23.0 for Murray in two games played last week and earned the Blazer his first ever Gulf South Conference Player of the Week award, as announced by the GSC on Tuesday.

The honor for the Birmingham, Ala. native comes on the heels of a 32 point barrage against Christian Brothers that helped lift the Blazers to an 84-65 conquest over the Bucs. In the contest, Murray collected his seventh double-double of the season after pulling down 10 rebounds to go along with an offensive onslaught that included a 12-14 (85.7%) shooting performance from the field and a 6-8 (75%) night from long range. The 32 point effort served as a career high for Murray, which topped a previous career-best 25 point outing against Shorter last February.

On the week, Murray shot a blistering 80.1 percent from the field, 75.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.0 percent from the free throw line. In addition, Murray also averaged 7.0 rebounds over the course of the week's two contests.

After an announcement on Monday that Tuesday night's matchup against the Argonauts of West Florida has been postponed due to inclement winter weather, the Blazers now set their sights on Saturday's GSC rematch against the Lee Flames. Valdosta State will look for redemption on their home floor this weekend after falling to Lee 59-72 in Cleveland, Tenn. back in December.

The Saturday showdown is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start following the women's game at 6:00 p.m., and the night will include recognition of the 2014 VSU Athletics Hall of Fame class. Get your tickets now at www.vstateblazers.com.
