Baseball, Beers, and a Lifelong Friendship

Tallahassee, FL -- June 1, 2012 --

Mississippi State Bulldog fans have their own tailgate tradition in Starkville called the "Left Field Lounge." It's a place where people can kick back and watch the games. They brought that concept here to Tallahassee for the second time in five years.

The Leftfield Lounge has plenty of cowbell to ring. The man on the grill goes by Snoot. It's not his first rodeo. In 2007, these Bulldogs met some Seminoles at the same tailgate. They immediately formed a bond.

"We were here in 07, and we were tailgating right here in the same spot," said the lead tailgater for Mississippi State, a man going by the name of "Snoot."

"We were tailgating with our little smokey, 8 pack of hotdogs, 12 pack of beer," remembered Michael Mchaffie, one of the FSU tailgaters from 2007.

As the story goes, the Mississippi State fans approached the men rooting for FSU and invited them to join their tailgate.

"We hung out with them the entire time. Had a great time. They invited us to come out for Super Bulldog Weekend and never expected us to take 'em up on it," said FSU tailgater Dave Chapman.

For the five years after that, the guys from FSU visited their new Mississippi State friends for their big baseball weekend held every April.

While they may be Mississippi State fans from head to toe, they'll admit they keep up with 'Noles now.

"We text each other all the time, and not just during football season. I follow Florida State now because of them, which I wouldn't before," said Snoot.

Sometimes even the strongest bonds can be formed from baseball, brats, and a beer.

The guys from Mississippi State are also tailgating for a good cause. On the back of their "Left Field Lounge" shirts reads the name "Duffy" and the number 14. It's in honor of a former Mississippi State baseball player who was paralyzed from the neck down shortly after graduating in 2010.

The guys sell their Left Field Lounge shirts at www.leftfieldlounge.com and all proceeds go towards the Duffy family. If anyone from the Big Bend area would like to purchase one, they can request special Garnet and Gold colors. Go to the Left Field Lounge website for more information.
