Florida State's Gage Smith Earns Academic All-District Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Gage Smith was named to the 2013 Capital One Baseball Academic All‐District ® IV first team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Smith has made a team-high 23 appearances, all in relief, for the Seminoles who currently sit in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division with a 16-8 record in 2013. The redshirt junior is 4-0 with a 2.22 ERA and one save. Smith has worked 28.1 innings allowing seven earned runs and 20 hits as opponents are hitting just .198 against the side-winding right hander. He has posted a 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the year with 25 strikeouts to just five walks.

The Tallahassee, Fla., native threw a season-high 2.2 innings in relief against Wake Forest on April 27 finishing the outing with a career-high five strikeouts. At one point during the season, Smith went 22.2 innings (19 appearances) where he only gave up one earned run.

Smith is a three-time Dean’s List and two-time President’s List (4.0 GPA) honoree at Florida State. He was named to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Team and is a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll honoree. Smith currently boasts a 3.78 GPA in business management.

First‐team Academic All‐District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America® Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
