TUCSON, Ariz. – Florida State senior Scott Sitz was named a third team Louisville Slugger All-American as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Thursday, May 30.
Sitz earns All-America honors for the first time in his career, while it marks the 21st consecutive year that the Seminoles have had at least one student-athlete recognized on Collegiate Baseball’s All-America team.
The right hander is in the midst of a career year posting single-season highs for wins, starts, innings pitched and strikeouts. Sitz is 9-1 with a 1.73 ERA in 83.0 innings with 67 strikeouts in 14 starts. He is tied for third in wins in the ACC, while his ERA ranks as the third lowest in the league. The Jacksonville Beach, Fla., native is currently on pace to establishing the lowest ERA by a Seminole pitcher since Scooby Morgan posted a 1.46 ERA in 1995 with at least 50 innings of work.
Sitz garnered first team All-ACC honors for the first time in his career in 2013 and in the process extended Florida State’s streak of recording at least one student-athlete on the All-ACC first team to 20 straight years (1994-2013).
The Jacksonville Beach, Fla., native has tossed a career-high 8.0 innings twice this year collecting wins over USF and Miami. He tied a career-high with nine strikeouts in his third start of the season against Villanova. Sitz has worked at least 7.0 innings in three of his last four starts, while opponents are hitting .252 off the Seminole hurler this year.
Sitz currently ranks in the top 40 nationally in ERA (26th) and victories (t-37th).
Sitz and the Seminoles will open postseason play Friday, May 31 at 5:00 p.m. against Savannah State on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.
