Athens, GA - For the second consecutive week, two Georgia players have earned weekly Southeastern Conference honors, according to a league announcement on Monday.
Senior offensive guard Chris Burnette was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for the first time in his career while sophomore placekicker Marshall Morgan received his second straight conference honor and second of his career after being named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Theses mark the sixth and seventh SEC honors in five game weeks for the Bulldogs.
Burnette, a native of LaGrange, graded out at 82 percent with six dominator blocks and four knockdowns during Georgia's 34-31 overtime win at Tennessee. He anchored an offense that generated at least 34 points and 400 yards for the fifth consecutive game of the 2013 season.
Burnette leads an offensive line that has only allowed one sack in the last three games, including a win over #6 LSU and on the road at Tennessee. The unit helped protect Aaron Murray during his game-tying drive against the Volunteers in the final minute of regulation and on the game-winning drive in overtime.
Morgan, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., scored 10 points in the Bulldogs’ 34-31 win at Tennessee, including the game-winning 42-yard field goal. This marked the first game-winning field goal since 2009 for the Bulldogs. Morgan started the game by drilling a career-long 56-yarder to put Georgia up 3-0.
Morgan’s 56-yard field goal is the longest field goal for the Bulldogs since 2011, the longest on the road in school history, the longest in Neyland Stadium history and is tied for the longest kick in the nation this year.
The seventh-ranked Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0 SEC) return home to face 25th-ranked Missouri (5-0, 1-0) on Oct. 12. ESPN will televise Georgia’s game at 12 p.m. ET.
