Georgia Volleyball Falls to Missouri, 3-0

Athens, GA - The University of Georgia volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (15-25, 25-23, 25-11) decision to Southeastern Conference newcomer Missouri on Sunday afternoon in SEC volleyball action in Columbia, Mo. The Bulldogs fall to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. Missouri improves to 12-4 on the season, including a 4-2 mark in SEC action.

Brittany Northcutt and Briana Bahr each finished with seven kills to lead the Bulldogs, with Elena Perri adding five kills. Kaylee Kehoe led the team with 15 assists, while Allison Summers added the team’s only service ace of the match. Summers also led the team with 11 digs. Northcutt and Perri each finished with two blocks to lead Georgia.

Georgia opened set one with a 5-3 lead, before Missouri’s Lisa Henning tied the set at five with an ace. The teams tied seven times before Missouri took a two-point lead at 14-12. Following a kill by Chloe Buckendahl that cut Missouri’s lead to three at 17-14, the Tigers went on a 5-0 run that allowed them a 22-14 lead. A Tiger error ended the run, but Missouri went on to score the final three points to take the first set 25-15.

The Bulldogs fought back from a 4-2 deficit to bring the set within one at 5-4. The Tigers scored three-straight points to increase their lead to four at 8-4, before Georgia answered with a pair of points that brought the score to 8-6. The teams traded points on the next five possessions, resulting in Missouri leading 14-12. The Tigers then scored four-straight points to extend their lead to 17-12. Trailing 19-14, a kill by Lauren Teknipp sparked a 4-0 run for the Bulldogs that brought them within one at 19-18 and forced a Mizzou timeout. A Block by Bahr tied the set at 20. Georgia and Missouri tied at 21, 22 and 23 before the Tigers scored the final two points of the set to edge Georgia 25-23.

Georgia opened the third set with a 4-2 lead. Missouri tied the set at five on a kill from Whitney Little. The Tigers then went on a 9-0 run that put them up 13-6. A kill by Eatmon ended the run and made it a 13-6 set. Missouri scored six of the next seven points to take an 18-7 lead. Georgia fought back but fell 25-11 in set three and 3-0 in the match.

Georgia returns to action on Wednesday night when they take on the LSU Tigers at 7 p.m. The match will be televised on ESPNU.
