Godby Football Moved By Visit To Grave Of Fallen Classmate

Tallahassee, FL -- Even though the Godby Cougars football team came up short on Labor Day in Maryland, their travel experience will be sticking with them all season.

On their way to take on DeMatha High School, the Godby football team visited Arlington National Cemetery. They gathered around the grave site of Cougar alum Robert Wise. Wise was killed in Iraq in 2003.

Coach Scott Scharinger, who also served in the military, said that being at the cemetery taught a lesson that went far beyond football.

"You sacrifice for each other, you're brothers. When you become a man, you do that for your wives, you do that for your kid, life's about sacrificing for each other, and hopefully that's a message they'll carry away from this," said Scharinger.

Wise's mother addressed the team at her son's grave as well. Godby plays Chiles High School in their next game on September 6th.
