Lakeland, FL - MaShawn Knight ended his high school wrestling career the way every athlete pictures it: going out on top. The Godby senior won the 285 pound bracket at the state wrestling tournament on Saturday at the Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Florida.
Godby Head Wrestling Coach Chuck Kilbourn may have been the happiest out of the two. Once the match (which was being filmed) was over, Kilbourn can be see bursting out with complete, unfiltered joy, jumping up and down, slapping the mat, giving a fist pump and hugging his assistant, Joey Phillips.
"Thirteen years coming, man," Kilbourn said in a text. "I still can't believe it!"
Knight is the third wrestler from Tallahassee to win a state wrestling title and the second from Godby to accomplish the feat. Godby alum B.J. Fletcher won in 1999, Lincoln's Tristan Sommer, who lost in this this year's finals, won it in 2013.
