TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 3, 2012) – Gordon (Ga.) College defeated Tallahassee Community College, 3-1, on Friday afternoon in NJCAA baseball action, thus earning a split of a two-game series with the Eagles.

The loss, Tallahassee’s first of the season, dropped the Eagles to 3-1.

Gordon plated two runs in the top of the third off Tallahassee starter Jared Romero (0-1) - an RBI-single from Chase Raffield and an RBI-ground out from Devin Bonin. Before he could get out of the inning, Romero was replaced by Nick Deckert, who tossed five innings of three-hit ball in relief.

The two runs turned out to be enough for starter and winner Kevin Burgee and reliever Zach Smith, who was credited with the save. The pair combined to limit the Eagles to seven hits.

Down 2-0, Tallahassee got on the board in the fifth. Graham Saiko doubled then scored on Nolan Thomas' two-out triple to cut Gordon's lead in half. The Eagles threatened for more, but left the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

"We had some opportunities, offensively," said Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod, "but we couldn't capitalize."

Saiko and Thomas finished with two hits apiece to lead Tallahassee, offensively.

Gordon picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Grant Massey took Deckert's first pitch over the left field wall for a solo home run.

Tallahassee brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but pinch hitter James Abbatinozzi popped up to second base to end the game.

Tallahassee will return to play on Saturday when it hosts Central Alabama Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
