Hitting: A Posey Family Tradition

Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State is set up to make another run through the playoffs, it's latest spark plug comes from new leadoff hitter Sam Posey.

"She's batting .400. That's a big help for us. That's pretty much what she's brought us," says assistant coach Alyssa Shirey. "Solid defense, that's been a hurt for us in the past. She plays solid defense at the corners."

"It wasn't hard to come in, it's a great group of girls," adds Sam Posey.
"They welcomed me with open arms and it's easy to work with people who want you to be there."

Sam is the Lady Blazers leader in home runs and average but should not come as a surprise. Hitting for power runs in her blood. She is the younger sister of Buster Posey, making a name for herself on the softball diamond.

Sam adds, "I've always tried to make a name for myself even though Buster has done a good job for us, I try to do my own part too as all my brothers try to do that."

Growing up with three brothers who loved baseball, she was never far away from the game.

Sam adds, "My friends were my brothers. All three of them. We were together all the time and all we did way play ball. We grew up at the baseball field and if we weren't at the baseball field we were in the front yard playing whiffleball or something. That's all we did."

Even with their family success the sibling rivalry still gets the best of her when asked who is the better of the four.

"No comment. I'm not even going to go there."
