Tallahassee, FL -- There are four levels of competition in NCAA Football. At the top there's Division I followed by FCS, then Division II followed by Division III. The only one without a playoff system in the most popular, Division I. Fans and even some school presidents have been wishing for a playoff system, that might soon be granted.

NCAA President Dr. Mark Emmert has openly supported the idea of a four team playoff. This year's BCS bowl games were some of the lowest in history. The National Championship between LSU and Alabama was the lowest rated title game ever in it's 14 year existence.

"At the end of the day the neutral bipartisan college football fan doesn't want to see two defenses, they want to see offense and exciting plays," says FSU senior Matt Sadberry. "The game kind of lacked all that."

If the four team playoff was in place this year, it would have had the winner of LSU versus Stanford take on the winner of Alabama and Oklahoma State, but Dr. Emmert understands the importance bowls have for schools.

"We shouldn't and won't just throw that away for no good reason. So whether or not this format or that format is going to be better, I think we have to realize that what we have right now, while it's imperfect and some people don't like it, it creates a lot of enthusiasm and excitement around bowl season."

He also says that the way the bowls are set up places a greater emphasis on the regular season.

"We've seen that in other sports where the NBA, it has a lot of teams moving forward and so the regular season doesn't have a big of an importance."
