Leon vs. Lincoln Rivalry Game Friday At Gene Cox

By  |

Underneath the Friday night lights of Gene Cox Stadium the Lincoln Trojans and the Leon Lions will stand across from each other in one of the biggest district rivalries in the area. A rivalry that has been dominated by Lincoln, something Leon is looking to change.

"They've kind of had the upper hand on us lately, but our kids are aware of it and we're looking to turn that around." says Leon Coach Bill Ragans.

Friday's game also hold a lot of weight for both teams district outcome.

" Its always been a district game against use to, so its always had great importance." says Lincoln Coach Yusuf Shakir.

"If we come out and beat Lincoln this week, then we have our seat in the playoffs." says Leon Quarterback Raleigh DeVore.

And with the two schools being so close together, the rivalry shares a lot of friendly competition.

"As a former player and a coach its always great excitement, its just kids that grew up and play against each other" says Shakir.

"Our kids know one another from around town, and summer leagues and other sports, so its always more fun when you beat someone you know." adds Ragans.

Both teams are pumped up and ready to take the glory in 2010.

"Its the biggest rivalry that Lincoln has ever had and we're going to keep the streak going." Keondrick Daniels.

"I feel like we're going to come out and win, just like Godby the other year and we're changing the power structure of the city and that's a big deal " add Raleigh DeVore.
