Leon's McGriff To Make His Own Mark

Leon junior quarterback D'Anfernee McGriff made a big decision, he's headed to Auburn to play football.

How'd he come about his decision?

"As a man had to make the business decision but came down to Auburn," McGriff said.

Recruiting, a business within itself. You just heard a 17 year old refer to his college announcement as a business decision.

D'Anfernee McGriff a prized recruit, scored 29 touchdowns last season. Big schools wanted him but not only is it a business decision, it's a life decision.

Sometimes you get compared to other athletes, it's even harder when your uncle is Tamarick Vanover, a former FSU standout, his jersey is retired at your high school, you live in the same town as the college he starred at and they are recruiting you but sometimes you have to follow your own footsteps make your own mark.

"He wasn't pushing me, he said whatever school make you happy," McGriff said.

Leading up to the announcement many experts have compared the two, saying they have similar speed and body type, but Vanover didn't make the best choices. He's had his share of run-ins with the law.

Vanover has passed on some sound wisdom.

McGriff has a strong sounding board to guide him along the way

"We are going to let our players decide where they go because I only have to live with this decision for a few more weeks. He has to live with it for the rest of his life and any influence I give is only what is the practical side of recruiting is, it's not helping him decide," Leon Head Football Coach Tim Cokely said.
