TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 9, 2012) - FCSAA No. 1/NJCAA No. 3 Tallahassee Community College hit eight home runs - four in each game - and swept St. Johns River State College, 11-3 and 7-0, on Thursday evening in the Eagles' home opener.
Tallahassee has won nine straight games to run its record to 11-3.
In the opener, Tallahassee spotted St. Johns River State two first-inning runs before the home run parade begin. The Eagles hit three home runs in the third inning - Kelly Engwall's three-run homer was sandwiched between solo shots from Alexis Anderson and Megan Oster - to take a 5-2 lead and the rout was on.
Anderson hit a second homer later in the game, then scored from first on Amanda Ake's double in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule.
Anderson was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
After allowing two runs in the first, Ally Ledenham settled down and gave up only one run over the next three innings. She allowed two hits and struck out three. Emily Smethurst pitched a scoreless fifth.
In the nightcap, Tallahassee picked up where it left off, hitting four more home runs in the 7-0 victory.
In the bottom of the first, Dallas Towns hit a three-run homer and Cherise McEnery followed with a solo shot to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.
That was more than enough for Kristyn Barry, who pitched a one-hitter. She struck out four.
Jessica Whitlock also homered and Bianca Gutierrez hit a two-run homer for Tallahassee. Anderson added two doubles and was 3-for-3 in game two.
Tallahassee continues an eight-game homestand on Tuesday when it hosts Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
