WCTV Sports Director Jason Hurst got a chance to play against the Harlem Globetrotters. He was mic’d up for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

“Shoot that ball, shoot that ball.”

“Before the game I was coached up.
“You might get a lot of air in here tonight.”
“Don’t worry about it.”

Marching out onto the court was awesome.

“This is fun man, woohoo.”

Pre-game warm-ups; looking around I felt out of place.

“How tall do you think that guy is?”

“I really feel short out here.”

“This is cool.”

The memories quickly entered my mind.

“Nothing like hearing that Sweet Georgia Brown.”

After-all it doesn’t seem that long ago.

“They make it look easy don’t they?”

I was one of those youngsters in the stands sitting beside my dad, watching the greats like Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal.

“The crowd really seems to enjoy it. Pretty good crowd here tonight and we’ve got front row seats right here.”

It’s game time and there’s a reason why I talk sports and not play the games.

“ahh man....that is terrible...are you serious?”

“Yowser!!! That ones in the upper deck.”

“Let’s see if you can shoot a three, a simple three point shot.”

The jokes soon came. I couldn’t help but laugh myself.

“You do sports on tv? Oh man you should try the weather man cause sports is not working for you.”

“And then it was silly antics. An inflatable ball.

“Air bal, air ball.”

“smack....That’s what we do in sports buddy don’t blame me.”

I had such a blast and ended in a made basket. And I don’t care if I was three feet away or not. A basket is a basket.”
