NFC's Callie Kitchens to Sign with Daytona State College Women's Golf Team

Tallahassee, FL - Beginning her golf career as a sixth grader for NFC, Callie Kitchens dreamed of where her many golf accomplishments would lead her when it came to the tough decision of selecting a college to play for. On Friday, January 28, Callie will make that important decision by signing with four time national champion Daytona State College. The signing will take place a 1:00 p.m. in the lower level of the church auditorium on the NFC campus.

As a seventh grader Callie was moved to the varsity team. Since her move to varsity, Callie went on to win an unprecedented five consecutive district championships. Her last district championship saw her post a par 72 score. Her regional championship performance resulted in two consecutive victories and qualified her for three consecutive tournaments. She carded a 73 at the 2010 regional championship. Her regional play qualified her to play in 3 consecutive state 1A championships. In 2010 she finished 29th by shooting a pair of 78’s.

Her high school career honors include First Team All Big Bend for 5 consecutive years and Big Bend Player of the Year in 2007.

Callie was also successful on junior golf tours winning multiple times over the past few years on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, Southeastern Junior Golf Tour and Red Hills Junior Golf Tour. Her junior tour honors include Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year in 2008.

Callie has been blessed with several golf coaches who have been very instrumental in her development: John Hill (Golden Eagle), Tim Lawson (Golden Eagle), Anne Cain (Amelia Island), Kenny Knox (Killearn) and Harry Van Der Lei.

Daytona State College Women’s Golf Team has won the NJCAA Women’s Golf National Championship four times, most recently in 2010. The team enjoys practicing at the LPGA International Golf Facility. In addition to their rich tournament history and exceptional practice facility, they are coached by two-time LPGA T&CP Coach of the Year, Laura Brown. This is Brown’s 13th season at the helm of the Lady Falcons’ golf team. Brown is the only coach that has served at Daytona State College, as she started the program in 1998. Under her leadership, Brown has won four NJCAA National Championships and coached 43 All-Americans, including two individual national champions. Coach Brown played for the University of Florida and competed on the Futures Tour and the LPGA Tour.

Callie has been supported by her family, parents George Kitchens and Nancy Kitchens, brother Greg, and sisters Jenna and Melody Kitchens.
