LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 24) - The Florida A&M Men's Basketball team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Presbyterian College 69-55 in their final game of the Las Vegas Invitational, here Saturday afternoon at the Orleans Arena.
FAMU (1-5) was paced by Jamie Adams as he scored a team-high 23 points and dished out five assists, followed by a Jamari Bradshaw with 12. Walter Davis led the Rattlers on the Boards with nine, while both Markee Teal and Oneyekachuwu Odi finished with five each.
PC (0-6) had three players to finish in double-digit scoring as Joshua Clyburn led the Blue Hose in scoring with 14, followed by Khalid Mutakbbir with 13 and Ryan McTavish added 10 points on the night. William Truss led the Blue Hose on the boards with seven.
FAMU grabbed an early 11-6 lead on a Walter Davis dunk with 15:05 to go in the first. PC countered with a 13-1 run to take a 19-12 lead on a Clyburn layup with 8:24 left in the half.
The Blue Hose would extend their lead to 31-20 on a Clyburn layup with 3:57 to go in the half.
FAMU would close out the half with a 13-3 run as they went into the break trailing PC 34-33, capped off by a Davis free throw with 46 seconds left in the half.
The Rattlers finished the first half shooting 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from the field, while the Blue Hose shot 52.4 percent (11-of-21).
A Bradshaw three-pointer tied the game at 40-40 with 15:55 to in the game.
It would be two minutes before either team would score as Reggie Lewis scored with 13:49 to go in the game, giving the Rattlers a 42-40 lead, sparking a 14-1 run by FAMU as the Rattlers made the score 54-41 on an Adams three pointer with 10:05 left in the game.
The Rattlers would extend their lead to 64-47 on another Bradshaw three pointer with 4:03 left in the game as FAMU held on for the 69-55 win.
FAMU finished the game shooting 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from the field, while PC finished the game shooting 38.1 percent (8-of-21). The Rattlers held the rebounding edge over the Blue Hose 33-30.
