Alpharetta, GA - The Florida State men’s golf team is tied for tenth after the first round at the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Capital City Club Crabapple. The Seminoles are only three strokes out of third place and look to move up the scoreboard Monday morning with a 10:10 am tee time off the back nine. Florida State, who started on the back nine, is 10-over with a score of 290 on the 7,248 yard, par-70 course.
Currently senior Chase Seiffert, sophomore Daniel Berger and freshman Rowin Caron lead the Seminoles all at 2-over par. Seiffert, a Panama City, Fla., native had a strong 1-under back nine to start the day but bogeyed on holes No. 3 and 4 to finish the day at 2-over 72. Berger, from Jupiter, Fla., had a slow start on the back nine but shot an even-par on the front to end the day.
Junior Bjorn Hellgren sits at 4-over 74 after the first day. The Vasteras, Sweden native had a rough start with a 5-over 40 on the back nine but was strong on the front nine with a 1-under par score that included two straight birdies on holes No. 2 and 3.
Freshman Collin Engelhardt (Orlando, Fla.) had the biggest improvement on the day. After teeing off on hole No. 10, he shot six bogeys before the turn. Engelhardt was 1-over on the front and made three birdies. He finished the day with a 7-over 77.
The Seminoles are part of a 15-team field that features 14 top 25 teams. Joining No. 18 Florida State are No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 UCLA, No. 6 Cal, No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 10 Washington, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 14 San Diego, No. 15 Kent State, No. 16 UNLV, No. 20 New Mexico, No. 24 Georgia and No. 32 Chattanooga.
