Tallahassee, FL -- The home stand continues for the No.21 Florida State women’s tennis team as the Seminoles get ready to host Auburn on Feb. 12 at 12 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
“Things for the team are coming along well and there is a lot of confidence right now from the girls. Winning creates confidence, and they have been winning quite a lot so far,” Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “We have to start stepping up our games and start being more specific with some things, especially in doubles. If we continue to focus on the little things we are only going to get better as the season grows.”
The 4-1 Seminoles took their fourth win of the season against Florida International last Saturday, 5-2. The pair of junior Francesca Segarelli and Ruth Seaborne continued their streak, by capturing a win at the number two spot against Guilianna Boha and Karyn Guttormsen, 8-1, moving them to 5-0 on the season.
Junior Carolina De Los Santos continued her solid, physical play at the number five position, as she beat Guttormsen 6-0, 6-0 in order to continue her 5-0 record in singles.
Also fitting the 5-0 trend in singles is freshman Leyla Erkan, who captured her first win at the number two position against Lisa Johnson 6-2, 6-0. In the first five matches, Erkan has contributed to three different positions.
The Auburn Tigers are 3-0 on the season, taking wins from Troy, Alabama A&M and Southern Miss. The Seminoles hold the all-time series advantage at 10-1. The two teams met last season, with Florida State taking the win, 6-1. The only FSU loss to Auburn came in 2002 under Head Coach Lise Gregory, when the Noles fell 4-3.
The match is scheduled to be played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center but times and locations are subject to change.
