TCC Places 11 on All-PC Softball Teams
A league-leading six Tallahassee Community College softball players were named to the Coaches’ All-Panhandle Conference First-Team, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Tallahassee, FL - A league-leading six Tallahassee Community College softball players were named to the Coaches’ All-Panhandle Conference First-Team, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The last time Tallahassee had as many as six first-team selections was 1996 – a group that included current Eagle assistant coach Jennifer McKibben. Head coach PattiTownsend was an assistant coach for Tallahassee’s 1996 squad.
Tallahassee had 11 total All-PC selections, which included one second-team pick and four players who were named honorable mention. The 11 total All-PC selections were second only to league champion Chipola College’s 14.
Tallahassee’s first-team selections included pitcher Emily Smethurst, catcher Kirsten Grant, outfielder Alexis Anderson, infielders Amanda Ake and Alanna Leasau, and at-large Sara Scott.
Pitcher Kate Klimovich was named Second-team All-PC while infielders Dallas Towns and Megan Oster, catcher Devin Kochergen, and outfielder Chelsea Good were named All-PC honorable mention in the vote conducted by the conference’s five head coaches.
Smethurst, a freshman from Brighton East, Victoria, Australia, went 11-8 with a 2.21 ERA in 24 appearances for the Eagles. She leads the team in innings pitched (123.2), strikeouts (94), opponents’ batting average (.178) and complete games (13). Smethurst tied for the team lead in wins (11).
Grant, a freshman from Oakville, Ontario, Canada, batted .333 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 40 games. She posted a .515 slugging percentage and her .402 on-base percentage was second-best among the Eagles’ everyday players. In PC play, she batted .333 and led the team with a .448 on-base percentage.
Anderson, a freshman from Buford, Ga., played in 40 games and led the Eagles with a .370 batting average, while also totaling 25 runs scored, 47 hits, six home runs and 20 RBIs. Her .583 slugging percentage was third-best on the team and she swiped a team-high 13 bases. She also led the Eagles with a .341 batting average in league play.
Ake, a freshman from Carrolton, Ga., batted .354 over 45 games and led the team in runs scored (30), hits (51), home runs (9), total bases (89) and slugging percentage (.618) while sharing team-high honors in RBIs (36). In PC play, she batted .321 and led the team in home runs (5), RBIs (11) and slugging percentage (.642).
Leasau, a freshman from Livermore, Calif., appeared in 49 games and batted .350. She was second on the team in runs scored (27), hits (49) and home runs (8) and had the third-most RBIs (21) on the Eagles’ roster. She posted a .586 slugging percentage and led the team with a .439 on-base percentage. She batted .333 with two home runs and six RBIs in PC play.
Last season, Scott, a Tallahassee native and former Lincoln High School standout, was the only freshman among the Eagles’ first-team picks. This year, she is the only sophomore in the bunch. A two-way player, Scott appeared in 33 games, including 21 as a pitcher. In the circle, she posted a 10-8 record, one save and a team-leading 1.94 ERA. In 112 innings pitched, she allowed 85 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 88 and holding opponents to a .196 batting average. At the plate, Scott batted .259 with two home runs and 15 RBIs.
Klimovich, a freshman from Langley, British Columbia, Canada, shared team-high honors in wins en route to an 11-3 record and 2.27 ERA. In 92.2 innings pitched, she allowed 89 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 55.
Towns, a freshman from Dunnellon, Fla., appeared in 46 games, batting .294 with five home runs. She shared team-high honors with 36 RBIs.
Oster, a freshman from Clermont, Fla., batted .290 with eight RBIs in 36 games.
Kochergen, a freshman from Madera, Calif, appeared in 31 games and her .368 batting average was second-best on the team. She had one home run and nine RBIs.
Good, a sophomore from Lake Mary, Fla., has played in a team-high 50 games, batting .204 with three home runs and 18 RBIs. This is Good’s second all-conference honor, as she was a second-team pick in 2010. She recently signed a national letter of intent with Middle Tennessee State University.
Tallahassee will carry a 33-19 record, No. 9 FCSAA ranking and the Panhandle Conference’s No. 4 seed into next week’s FCSAA Gulf District Softball Tournament in Pensacola, Fla., The Eagles will open play at 1 p.m. eastern, Friday, April 29 against Suncoast Conference Champion Polk State College.
