Tallahassee, FL -- February 7. 2012 --

Tallahassee Community College’s softball and baseball teams each made strides in the latest Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Coaches’ Polls, released on Tuesday.

Tallahassee’s softball team moved into the number one spot in the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll after opening the season at No. 2. The Eagles are currently 7-3 on the season.

After dropping three one-run games at the season-opening JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase, Tallahassee responded in a big way, posting a 5-0 record at last weekend’s prestigious Triple Crown College Classic. En route to being crowned champions of the ten-team event, Tallahassee avenged the previous weekend’s losses to St. Petersburg College and Miami Dade College and also defeated nationally-ranked Florida State College at Jacksonville, 10-1.

Tallahassee received six of the 19 first-place votes and 148 total points in the voting. Florida State College at Jacksonville, who received five first-place votes, moved up one spot to No. 2. No. 3 Chipola College, No. 4 Northwest Florida State College, No. 6 State College of Florida and No. 7 Indian River State College also received first-place votes.

A fourth Panhandle Conference school, Gulf Coast State College, is ranked No. 5.

Tallahassee traveled to No. 10 Santa Fe College for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader and will host St. Johns River State College, who received votes in the poll, in its home opener at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Meanwhile, after being unranked in the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Poll, Tallahassee soared into the upper half of the first regular season poll, earning a No. 4 ranking.

Tallahassee has won five of its first six games, highlighted by a doubleheader sweep of Central Alabama Community College last Saturday.

The Eagles received five of the 17 first-place votes – second only to No. 1 Santa Fe, who received ten – and 97 total points in the voting.

Tallahassee leads three PC teams in the top ten – Chipola, the preseason No. 1 team, is ranked No. 8 while Northwest Florida State is one spot behind at No. 9.

Tallahassee hosts No. 7 St. Johns River State College at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
