"It's not lingerie, it's not flag, we're tackle. We're the real deal, so it's going on out here,” Jewels Outside Linebacker Yasika Wiley said.
The Tallahassee jewels, just a year old they made the playoffs, now looking to get better and erase any stereotypes.
"I've been wanting to play tackle since I was a kid but my parents were always like tackle is for boys,” Jewels Defensive End Jennifer Lopez said.
"Women are very smart and can pick up very quickly. They’ve never been taught football so there's no bad habits to start with so it's a lot easier to teach women because they have no bad habits,” Jewels Head Coach Lynette Alvarado said.
These athletes aren't signing million dollar contracts. They play for the love of the game,
They ‘re the same women you run into at the grocery store, fixing you up at your local hospital or even teaching your kids.
"I work full time I’m a nurse, so I'm always moving around," Wiley said
“When I first told some of my co-workers I was playing and even my students they were like oh you're lying and when I told them to come out to the game they were like "Oh my God" I didn’t know you could hit somebody like that because I’m very small. I’m only 5’ 2”, I really don’t weigh a whole lot,” Lopez said.
They may be women but they can hit, I found out the hard way.
"Getting some frustration out cause you're almost having a brawl out here basically legally and you’re not going to be thrown in jail. (laughter)," Alvarado said.
Yasika is a mom of an eleven and a one year old. Her oldest has plenty of questions.
"He's okay with the bruises. He just wants to know who did it. Who did it? That’s his question. Who did it, who hit you, and did it hurt?
