Tallahassee claims Triple Crown College Classic championship
NJCAA No. 3/FCSAA No. 2 Tallahassee Community College beat Aiken (S.C.) Technical College and St. Johns River State College on Sunday to claim the prestigious Triple Crown College Classic championship.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (February 5, 2012) – NJCAA No. 3/FCSAA No. 2 Tallahassee Community College beat Aiken (S.C.) Technical College and St. Johns River State College on Sunday to claim the prestigious Triple Crown College Classic championship.
Tallahassee and Panhandle Conference rival Gulf Coast State College were the only schools in the ten-team field to finish with an unblemished record, but the Eagles were the only one to go 5-0 and outscored their opponents 37-7.
In Sunday’s opener, sophomores Amanda Ake and Ally Ledenham powered Tallahassee to a 10-1 win over Aiken Tech.
Ake was a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. Meanwhile, Ledenham pitched a four-hitter and struck out three to notch the victory in the circle.
Alexis Anderson added three hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
Tallahassee capped its perfect weekend with a 7-2 win over St. Johns River State.
Emily Smethurst allowed only three hits and both of the Vikings’ runs were unearned.
Offensively, Ake capped an outstanding weekend by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run. In the five games, Ake was 11-for-18 with four home runs and eight RBIs.
Dallas Towns was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and Alanna Leasau was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Tallahassee, now 7-3, will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Santa Fe College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
