Taylor to Rattlers: Keep the Focus

Tallahassee, FL - FAMU will end their first and only two-game homestand this weekend against South Carolina State. Last year they lost to the Bulldogs by three points. With the way the first half of the season has gone, there was no telling what team would finish the season. But the Rattlers had a huge lift last week in the win against Savannah State.

"They accept the fact that they just need to work harder," Head Coach Joe Taylor said. "Out of 612 yards this past weekend, 323 were on the ground. That's the kind of balance you're looking for."

Seven games into the season at 3-1 in the MEAC, FAMU may finally look like a complete team.

"You saw three phases contributing at a high level: special teams, defense and offense," Taylor said. "That's why you saw the outcome that you did."

They beat Savannah State by 41 points. But, now, they have South Carolina State, a team with one conference win this season.

"I believe the first six games, five was on the road and one was home and we got a 'W' that first home game. Last week just felt good to be home with the crowd behind us 100 percent," sophomore quarterback Damien Fleming said.

While the home crowd has electrified them this season, they don't expect it to be the only place they'll have success.

"I feel like as long as we continue to do what we did this past week in practice, come back energized for this week in practice, for the rest of the season, I feel like it will work out in our favor," senior running back Eddie Rocker said.

And they may have found all the inspiration they need.

"Focus is the main message and we really see it.," Taylor said.
