Team Georgia Players Seek Opportunity

Moultrie, GA - With one more game before the end of his high school career, Donald Thomas refuses to take plays off. This is his last chance to earn a win and a college scholarship.

"I had to train and get better, knew I was gonna have to perform," he said. "So I want to earn a scholarship, people come in and watch me play."

Thomas played quarterback and defensive back for Cairo this past season. He's just one of more than 60 players on Team Georgia. Overall, 14 schools are represented. And although they didn't see eye-to-eye on the gridiron during the regular season, they all have the same expectations when they step on the field against Team Florida.

"They probably have good players just like we have good players, so it's just some fun. We come out here and just show out," Bainbridge offensive tackle Aquivius Carroll said.

"I didn't really know what to think. I thought it would be hard to work with these guys," Thomas County Central cornerback Winston Codling said. "But, really, we all just love the game of football and its just been real good. And we just want one thing and that's to win."

About 10 Colquitt County players will be participating for Team Georgia. It'll be their final game on Tom White Field this Saturday.

"It's a great opportunity to play on my field again," Colquitt County defensive end Ikeem Blakley said. "I miss my players from the old team but this is a very good experience playing with other teams."

All with one goal after dealing with defeat the past two years.

"I feel like we need to get this win," Blakley said. "This our year right here. Georgia."

The War of the Border will kickoff this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mack Tharpe Stadium in Moultrie, Georgia.
