Thursday's Update From FSU Fall Camp

By  |

I got home late from work the other night, turn on the television, I caught a replay of FSU's Orange Bowl victory. That win is a big reason why this team is just outside the top ten.

New Defensive Coordinator Jeremy Pruitt is bringing a different look to the D.

He has lots of talent to mix up the packages. One player who stood out late in the season, Karlos Williams.

He filled in nicely at linebacker in the ACC title game, came out of spring a safety.

He's big, fast and physical. Three words that'll be used a lot this fall to describe FSU's defense.

"We're gonna blitz a lot more, we're gonna play a lot tougher football. We're just scraping the surface - barely scraping the surface - of what we're gonna be running this year. Coach Pruitt has definitely brought a very good defense to Florida State that's fit our system, fit our players. And we're just gonna really attack it and take it day by day," Williams, a junior defensive back, said.

Tight end is going to be an interesting position to keep an eye on.

Several players have transfered, freshman Jeremy Kerr will need surgery but no ACL damage, and behind starter Nick O'Leary there isn't much depth.

Giorgio Newberry is making the switch from defense to tight end, but can Newberry catch? He says yes.

Success with fundraising was something FSU President Eric Baron was looking for in a candidate for Athletic Driector.

Stan Wilcox is now the new AD.

Football is the biggest money maker in college sports, so what does FSU Head Football Coach Jimbo Fisher think of the new hire?

"Very nice guy. Look forward to working with him. Seemed like a great guy. Got a lot of experience. I know some people who worked with him. They liked him very well. Guys that spoke very highly of him, guys that I respect. So I'm looking forward to working with Stan and happy he is here. Seemed like a great guy, great guy."
