ATHENS-------- University of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt will receive the 2013 Stallings Award Monday, May 13, in Dallas.

Named for former college and NFL head coach Gene Stallings, the Stallings Award was created to honor college football head coaches who are also humanitarians and strive to promote healthy, vibrant communities through charitable and community service efforts.

The award, held at the Dallas Country Club, will be presented to Richt by 2012 recipient Mack Brown, head coach at Texas. The Stallings Award is presented by Dr. Pepper and raises money for children with disabilities as a tribute to Johnny Stallings, Gene’s late son who was born with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect. Funds will benefit The Rise School of Dallas, a nonprofit preschool for children with developmental disabilities.
