VSU Fighting for Conference Supremancy

Valdosta, GA - This game meant everything last season. It was their final game of the year and a trip to the playoffs was at stake. Valdosta State can't let those North Alabama demons of the past haunt them this Saturday on the road.

"Their backs aren't against the wall like ours is," Head Coach David Dean said. "But there's still a lot on the line."

The Blazers lost in the last minute to North Alabama last season, ending their playoff dreams. But with one conference loss already this year, the Blazers can't let the Lions get another step ahead of them.

"It's gonna be tough and we know that already," said Gerald Ford, a junior wide receiver. "But we're prepared to battle all night long, as long as it takes for us to get a win."

"They're real athletic. They got athletes all across the board," said Matt Pierce, a senior cornerback. " We just gotta compete with 'em every play and we just gotta contain 'em."

VSU's defense contained West Georgia last week to seven points. West Georgia is second to the Blazers in total offense in the conference.

"They shut us down everyday, so there's nothing new for us seeing it," Ford said. "It's just great to see us put all the pieces together and for it to work out."

"We just gotta play like the last couple of weeks," Pierce said. "Do your job, discipline and play assignment football."

"I think we played a complete football game for the first time all year," Dean said referring to the West Georgia game. "As we continue with the North Alabama game, if we should win that than the next three should be exactly the same. They're all must wins from here on out."
