VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State football team learned Sunday it will enter the 2012 NCAA Playoffs as the top seed in Super Region 2 as the postseason brackets were announced by the NCAA via a live webcast.

By receiving the region's top seed, Valdosta State earns a first round bye and will not play until Saturday, November 24. The Blazers will host the winner of next weekend's game between West Alabama, the Gulf South Conference champion and No. 4 seed, and No. 5 seed Miles from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Carson-Newman, who finished second in the South Atlantic Conference, earned the Super Region 2 No. 2 seed and will also receive a bye next week while SAC champion Lenoir-Rhyne was named the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Fort Valley State out of the SIAC.

Valdosta State's game on November 24 is slated for a Noon kickoff. Tickets for the game go on sale on Monday, November 12 in the VSU Athletic Offices. Blazer season ticket holders have until Monday, November 19 at 5:00 p.m. to purchase the same seats they had during the regular season. After the November 1 deadline, all tickets will be released for sale to the general public.

The 2012 postseason marks the 12th time that Valdosta State has advanced to the NCAA Playoffs, including the fourth time under Head Coach David Dean. The Blazers last entered the postseason as the region's top team in 2007 and went on to win its second national championship.

Valdosta State enters the 2012 postseason with an 8-2 record, including a 4-1 mark in GSC play and wins in its last six games. The bye week in the opening round of the playoffs, coupled with Valdosta State's bye week to close out the 2012 regular season, gives the Blazers a 23-day break in-between contests.
