Montevallo, AL - Valdosta State scored three goals for the second consecutive match en route to a 3-1 victory over Montevallo Sunday. Emily Cooper started the scoring just five minutes into the match, and Kim Caitlin Alderman and Rebecca Miller finished it with two goals in the final six minutes to improve to 6-1 on the season.
The Blazers wasted no time Sunday. Arielle Sabina sent a corner kick into Cooper who finished with a header to give Valdosta State the early lead. After that, the scoring faded away until just six minutes left in the match.
Miller continued her playmaking ways this season when she found Alderman for VSU's second goal early in the 85th minute.
Montevallo, determined not to be shut out at home, was able to score a goal just after Alderman's. Jade Pennock set up Nicole Johnston for the lone Falcons goal of the match just three and a half minutes after Alderman's goal.
With a single goal lead, Valdosta State went looking for an insurance goal. Miller found it all on her own, scoring the unassisted goal with just 25 seconds left to play and racking up three points individually.
Mills Ninja Save
Mills made three stops Sunday.
Olivia Mills made three saves on the day for Valdosta State while the VSU offense shot a barrage of shots at Montevallo goalkeeper Kaitlin Thomas, finishing with 16 shots and five on goal.
Sabina and Blakely McClellan were the other Blazers to place a shot on goal in the match.
Valdosta State's next match will be a Gulf South Conference match at 7 p.m. Thursday on West Georgia's field.
