CARROLLTON, Ga. – In a match-up of the Gulf South Conference's two highest scoring offenses, Valdosta State stymied West Georgia as the Blazers defeated the Wolves 42-7 at Ra-Lin Field Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Blazers improved to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in Gulf South Conference play while UWG fell to 2-3 and 0-2.

VSU entered the contest averaging 43.0 points a game while the Wolves averaged 37.5 each contest. The Blazer defense stifled the West Georgia attack for much of the afternoon as the Wolves were limited to just 217 yards of total offense, 67 of which came on the final drive when UWG scored its only touchdown of the game.

Valdosta State opened the scoring early in the second quarter as Gerald Ford capped off an 11-play drive with a six-yard touchdown catch. After struggling on their first two drive, during which VSU gained just 10 total yards, the Blazers took over on their own 19 on their third drive. A nine-yard completion to Quin Roberson and a 14-yard rush by Austin Scott gave VSU their first first down of the game before Regginald Lewis turned a short catch into a 25-yard gain. Five plays later, a 12-yard catch by D'Amonte Ridley moved the ball inside the UWG 10, setting up the Ford touchdown that gave VSU a 7-0 lead with 14:14 to go in the first half.

The Blazers pushed their advantage to 14-0 with 2:24 to go in the first half as it needed just two plays to score on a Cayden Cochran to Seantavious Jones. After a short punt by West Georgia gave VSU the ball on the Wolf 38, Lewis gained 32 yards on a rush before Jones went over West Georgia's Kelly Dawsey for a catch in the left corner of the end zone for the score.

A Lance Holder interception on the ensuing West Georgia drive once again gave VSU the ball on the Wolf end of the field. After a 13-yard pass to Jones on the first play of the drive, Scott picked up four yards on a carry before busting through the line for a 27-yard touchdown run to establish a 21-0 VSU halftime lead.

Valdosta State took the opening kickoff of the second half 69 yards to push its lead to four touchdowns. Cochran completed both of his passes on the drive for 39 yards while Scott carried the ball three times for 18 yards, the final two for the score and a 28-0 VSU lead.

Scott added his third rushing touchdown of the game five minutes later to cap off a 92-yard drive while Quin Roberson added a 10-yard touchdown catch with 11:57 to go in the fourth quarter to push the VSU advantage to 42-0. West Georgia scored its only touchdown on its final drive as it marched 67 yards for a five-yard touchdown run by Quan Jones.

Valdosta State finished the game with 507 yards of total offense, including 297 rushing and 210 through the air. Scott led the Blazer offense with a career-high 132 yards, while also setting a new career high with three touchdowns. Cochran added 65 more yards on the ground and 141 through the air while Lewis had four catches for 54 yards. Jeremy Grable led the Valdosta State defense with seven tackles, including a sack.

David Bailey led West Georgia with 51 yards rushing while Delontae Amey had 12 tackles to lead the Wolf defense.

Valdosta State remains on the road as the Blazers travel to Florence, Ala. to face North Alabama next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.
