VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State quarterback Cayden Cochran has been named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement made by the league office Monday.
Cochran earned the honor after leading the Blazers to a 37-6 victory over Shorter last Thursday. Cochran completed 20-of-23 passes in the game for 212 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 15 yards and another score. He accounted for three of the four VSU touchdowns in the game.
On the year, Cochran has completed 114-of-183 passes, a 62.3 completion percentage, for 15 touchdowns, against just three interceptions. He has also rushed for 244 yards and five more scores in leading the GSC's top offensive unit.
BLAZERS RE-ENTER NATIONAL RANKINGS
After a five week absence, Valdosta State has re-entered the national rankings as the Blazers are ranked 24th in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll.
The Blazers tallied 71 votes in the poll and are one of two GSC teams ranked as West Alabama is three spots in front of VSU at No. 21.
Valdosta State returns to action Thursday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. The Blazer seniors will be honored prior to the game.
