There is a new team in North Florida called the Tallahassee Jewels, an all female tackle football team. The Tallahassee Jewels is a member of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), a full-contact American tackle football league comprised of 63 teams across the U.S. and Mexico http://www.wfafootball.com/ that plays by NFL rules. The WFA offers women in North America an opportunity to participate in a well organized, all female league that promotes a high level of professionalism and athletic opportunity. The Tallahassee Jewels will be one of several new teams added for the 2012 season.
The owners of the team are Lynnette Alvarado and Marcia Cook. Both are passionate about tackle football, having played previously for the Jacksonville Dixie Blues for several years. They are now looking to create a similar opportunity for women in the Tallahassee, FL area to experience the fun and excitement of full-contact football. As a member team of the WFA, the Tallahassee Jewels will promote high levels of sportsmanship, professionalism and athleticism, all benchmarks of the WFA league.
The Jewels home field for the 2012 season will be Lincoln High School located at 3838 Trojan Trail in Tallahassee, FL 32311. Tryouts will be held Saturday, October 1st and 8th from 9:00am-12:00pm at Messer Park 2730 Jackson Bluff Rd. Tallahassee, FL 32304
