Over the weekend (September 4-7), Terrance & Terrell Whitehurst competed in the Summer Smash Regional Tennis Championships in Delray Beach, Florida.

The Summer Smash is a Level-3 National Junior tennis tournament. Terrance (went 6-0) won the boys 14's singles by beating number one seed Jared Woodson from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, (6-4, 6-3) in the finals. Woodson trains at the Dennis Van der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head Island. In the semis, Terrance defeated the No. 2 seed, Tate Allwardt out of Boca Raton, Florida, (7-5, 1-6, 6-4).

Terrell (went 4-2) also had a very good tournament, making it to the semi-finals of the main draw and winning four matches in the main draw. Terrell ended up in fourth place. These results will move them up in the Florida and national rankings.

As of September 9th, Terrance is 5th in state of Florida and 39th in the nation. Terrell is 7th in the state and 41st in the country.

"Their hard work is paying off and their game is truly starting to click". said their father Tony Whitehurst.

Summer Smash is the third national tournament win for Terrance since the beginning of June. He also finished in third place at the Florida State Closed Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida. Terrell finished second to his brother in the Peach State National (in Georgia) back in May, won the consolation title at the Southern Open (Terrance won first place) and went (6-2) at the Super National Clay Courts

"They are figuring out what is needed to get the job done at the right time," added Whitehurst. "That is a satisfying feeling for the parents and coaches who have all been responsible for this rise in play".
