VHS Cross Country Teams Start Out Strong

Cross Country at Valdosta High has started out doing very well. Two meets into the season, the Wildcat boys have clinched first and second place overall finishes, and the girls have a second place finish.

At the Tift County Invitational on September 11th, the Wildcat boys team finished in first place overall with two runners, Timmy Evans and Doyle Wallace finishing second and third. Evans ran the 5K in 18:21 and Wallace in 18:30. Mike Hammond came in 10th in 19:54 followed by Austin Wallace 12th (19:59), Valen Lopez 13th (20:07), Clarence Smith 14th (20:10), and Andrew Smith 17th (20:29). The Valdosta Girl’s placed Second at Tift behind Lowndes. Chelsea Walker finished 3rd in 22:47. Also placing in the top ten were Kirsten Kielma 9th (23:41) and Donjahae Jones 10th (24:52). Bailey Hurst finished 11th (25:01), Mitchell Beeland 21st (27:47), Sarah Nix 24th (28:00, Maddie Nix 27th (29:39), McClain Talley 30th (31:54), and Claire Hanson 32nd (32:16).

The teams competed again on September 18th, at the Mercer FunFit Invitational in Macon with the boy’s team finishing second. Doyle Wallace came in 5th (18:01) and Joel Aguilar 8th (18:18). Also finishing for Valdosta were Timmy Evans 12th (18:32), Austin Wallace 15th (19:06), Valen Lopez 21st (19:21), Andrew Smith 24th (19:26), Mike Hammond 31st (19:51), and Clarence Smith 47th (20:27). The girls ran a respectable race finishing fifth overall. Chelsea Walker finished first for Valdosta at 7th in 21:10. Kirsten Kielma followed at 17th (22:19), Donjahae Jones 25th (23:24), Mitchell Beeland 46th (26:27), Bailey Hurst 49th (26:33), Sarah Nix 59th (27:41), and Maddie Nix 68th (29:50).
