Haley Austin's senior year at Rickards was completely derailed after tearing her ACL last summer. She began to fear the worst.
"The thought that kept running through my head is no more scholarship," she said. "No more running track. It's all gone. It's all over."
One school stayed by her side the entire time. Bethune-Cookman kept in touch with Austin throughout her entire rehabilitation process. On Wednedsay, she officially signed with the Wildcats.
"I knew that a college that would stick with me through all of that is definitely the best choice," she said. "The coach impressed me so much that I didn't even need to go on the campus."
In Austin's high school career, she was a two-time city champ, qualified for nationals twice at the AAU level and won the Class-2A District, Region and State Championships as a junior.
