HS Football Preview: Lowndes Vikings

Valdosta, GA - As the sprinklers rained over Martin Stadium on Wednesday, the Lowndes football team wouldn't let it deter them from continuing their drills. After all, Coach Randy McPherson told his players that they should have no regrets this season.

"We don't want to look back and say 'Could've worked harder.' You know, 'If I'd have done that,' McPherson said. "We're just gonna go as hard as we can go. Work as hard as we can and whatever happens, happens."

The Vikings are taking on a new mentality, instead. Lowndes has won three titles in 21st Century, yet none of the current players were on those teams. So now it's up to them to taste the same success.

"A lot of people working hard," said Josh Clemons, a Senior Quarterback and Linebacker. "I mean, we don't have a lot of D-1 prospects like a whole of other teams or nothing, but everybody's working hard and those are the teams that won the championship that didn't have all those players."

"We've been hungry for it," said James Mathis, a Senior Defensive End. "We've been wanting this for a long time. We're ready for it."

It appears that way, too. The Vikings proved it on the field last Friday by beating Thomas County Central pretty convincingly in a scrimmage.

"Everything's really falling into place, as you can tell by the scrimmage the other day," Clemons said. "But we're just working on getting better and keep improving."
