HS Football Tackles Spring Camp

Tallahassee, FL - The months between the end of the regular season and the start of Spring can be both gratifying or tormenting. Some teams are still on a championship high, while others are still trying to shake their playoff shortfall.

Spring football is about transition and change. But, let's be honest. It's also another reason to put on the pads.

"Everybody's out there and it's wild," said Tre Jackson, a junior linebacker at Lowndes. "Everybody's out there hyping around. We ready. We've been wanting this for weeks, so we ready."

A new start and some new coaches. Scott Houston, who was an assistant at Godby, is the new head coach at John Paul II. Former Taylor County Head Coach Steve Price is the new defensive coordinator at North Florida Christian.

"The leadership he'll provide and also getting our defense going in the right direction and continuing what we've always done here at North Florida and that's play good defense," NFC Head Coach Robert Craft said.

Players are also switching uniforms, even in a place like Winnersville.
Ever think a Valdosta Wildcat could turn into a Lowndes Viking, or vice versa?

"There's always gonna be a little tension just because it's a crosstown rival," said Alex Stephenson, who transferred to Lowndes after playing for Valdosta last season. "But, I'm happy to be over here with my friends."

Some of the most important friends, though, are gone to graduation. That leaves behind some extra spring cleaning for the next month.

"We have a lot of guys, a lot of returning guys actually," Godby lineman Clayton Simmons said. "But, the new guys are learning to adapt and be more physical and it's a good thing."

Spring football is also an opportunity for players to set goals. Of course, number one is winning on Friday nights.
