Thomasville, GA -- 2010 ended sooner than expected for Thomas County Central. After a second place finish in region 1-AAAA, the Jackets were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. A young and inexperienced team takes the field this season, but the goals are still the same.

"No matter what the faces are, the tradition is still here and the expectations are still here," says TCCHS head football coach Bill Shaver. "Our fans expect it and our kids expect it and they put the work in to do that."

One area that the Jackets can rely on is the strength of the offensive line. Five seniors will block for a new starting quarterback and running back.

"It's not really one person it's like all of us. We're all seniors. It's all leadership," adds senior center Peyton Glass.

With the youth that the Jackets have on both sides of the ball these next few weeks will be important for players to step up and fill the leadership roles left by Ray Drew, Eric Dodson and Curtis Brooks.

"All you do is show them how to work hard and teach them a good work ethic," adds TCCHS senior defensive end/tight end Damien Williams.

Shaver adds, "There's no one quite as voicetourous and talkative as Ray was so I think Keshad (Peake) is going to have to be that leader for us. He's a senior and he knows it's his last shot. We're counting on him for a lot of leadershsip. Jonathan Esther is the best player we have coming back."

Thomas County Central will scrimmage at Lowndes August 12th before opening the season at home against Thomasville on the 26th.
