Tallahassee, FL - Lincoln football's success this year may run through their three All-American nominees. James Hearns, Reggie Davis and Taj Williams are the next in line to lead the Trojans.
"All three of us - me, Taj and Reggie - have come up through the program," said Hearns, a senior linebacker committed to the University of Florida. "We've seen the ups and downs. We've won a state championship and we've been knocked out of the first round. So, we see what it takes and the dos and don'ts."
Head Coach Yusuf Shakir could have around 10 college recruits once the season ends. But, Shakir says those players are focused on the team, not themselves.
"They understand the overall concept that when the team wins than the individual can be successful," Shakir said. "They don't think about it the opposite way."
The Trojans will bring that selflessness to the Superdome in New Orleans in early September.
"Kids are excited. I'm not gonna lie about it. Our community's excited about it. It's a great experience," Shakir said.
It's an early test that could line up the rest of their schedule.
"We've got a lot of young guys that's coming in that's gonna play," said Reggie Davis, a senior wide receiver. "We're a really good team, everybody working hard and trying to contribute to the team. So we're all on the same page and it should end good for us."
"We can't go into games expecting to win," said Taj Williams, a senior wide reciever. "We gotta go out their and perform and win on the field. Not just the media and everybody talking about stuff like that."
"They say games are won in the offseason," Hearns said. "So we've been grinding ever since we got knocked out of the playoffs last year. So, it's just been building up. We're real hungry."
