National Signing Day was extra special this year for the Godby Cougars... 9 seniors were able to sign football scholarship letters in front of a packed library... And there for every minute of it was Godby head football coach Ronnie Cottrell.
"I wasn't going to miss it today, no sir, no way."
But just 2 months ago, seeing signing day was understandably overshadowed by his own health... Cottrell suffered a heart attack and had been recovering in Birmingham Alabama.
"Well I'm just glad to be home, having a heart attack three weeks ago was a life changing experience, and it really makes me appreciative and I love these kids here at Godby and we have a great school."
And Coach Cottrell said being able to watch his players take that next step in the classroom and on the football field is a moment he cherishes.
"Every one of our senior football players are going to school now, some to play football, some not, but I'm just glad these kids are going to college because that's the future for these guys. "
