Tallahassee, FL - Great job by our cross country teams Saturday at the Region Championships in Lake City. Both teams were aiming for a top six finish which would automatically qualify them for this weekend’s State Meet.

In the girls competition, Chiles took the first places in the meet as Lily Williams, Carly Thomas, and Rachel Givens all had great performances. Also helping the WOLVES win the Region Title were Jessica Gillard, Sara Lane, Ashton McMurray and Anna Morse. With this win, the Women of Chiles captured their ninth straight Region Title (2003-2011).

In the boys competition, it was all about placing among the top six teams overall and getting a ticket into the State Meet. The team ran a smart and controlled race early and as a result placed fourth. Senior Taylor Buzzard ran very well and placed fifth overall among the 122 runners with a time of 15:55. Other members of the Varsity team that competed in the meet were Cade Zimmerman, Jacob Krell, Crawford Conrad, Sean Turner, Trevor Knauf, Will Spiers.

Saturday, both teams will compete in the FHSAA Class 3A State Cross Country Championships at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City. The girls will enter the meet seeded #2 behind #1 seed Estero HS. Estero won the Class 2A State Title in 2010 and moved up to Class 3A this season. The boys will be one of the teams capable of a top-five finish. Last season, the girls won their 3rd consecutive State Title, while the boys placed 13th overall.
