Lakeland, FL - The Rickards boys basketball team is heading back to the Class 3A state championship game.

Coach Eli Bryant and the Raiders played in the 3A State Semifinals Wednesday night against Pine Crest High School out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. The defending 3A Champs needed overtime to finally distance themselves from their Final Four opponent; the end of regulation had the game knotted up at 61 apiece. But when the final OT buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read: Rickards 73, Pine Crest 67.

The win means Rickards will play Thursday night in Lakeland for the Class 3A State Championship trophy and a chance at winning back-to-back State Titles.

This program is a dynasty!! We need to celebrate these kids and this program. Since Jackie Pons took over as basketball coach at Rickards High in the 86-87 season, this school has continually put out a good product on the basketball court. It started with baby steps...players like Adrian Kinsey, Billy Hatten, David Benjamin, James Cuyler, the Milton boys, Reggie Seals, Gary MacPherson, Karl Knight, Avery Curry, Gentry Sparks,...all these guys passed the torch to the current players, Bush and Chris Bryant. It started with being city champs, then district champs, then regional champs then state champs. Now they are a perennial basketball powerhouse. Congrats to Coach Bryant. I know they will win on Thursday and bring another state title home to Tally. Go Redskins......errrr Raiders.

Thanks for the recogniton. Couldn't have summed it up better. RHS is the best and has been the best for a long time. Some times we don't get the recognition. Becase we are a south side school. RHS has produced some of the best basketball talent around. We are the best and will continue to be the best. RHS BASKETBALLaint no stopping us.
