Female Fitness Fanatics

It's common to see guys hitting it hard in the gym, but did you know there are some females who are just as serious about working out?
There are men who train for bodybuilding competitions, and then there are females who train for fitness and figure competitions.

These females take their fitness to a whole new level. We're talking about dedicating over eight hours per week to the gym and dieting daily. It can become a full time job!

Toni Rizzo tries to find balance in her life as a figure competitor and Florida State University student. She says, "I've had to give up countless birthday parties, tailgates, going out with my friends, all to be here doing this."

Exercise is a great way to get your body in shape, but food is the tool that can really sculpt your body. The majority of our calories come from GOOD carbs—like whole grains, brown rice, and potatoes—QUALITY protein—like tilapia, chicken breast, and egg whites—and HEALTHY fats—like avocados, olive oil, and almonds. Stay away from the bags and the boxes. Keep it all natural!

We female fitness fanatics sure aren't starving ourselves!
Rizzo confirms this. "I eat about 2 pounds of meat a day, and this is just one of eight servings." Every meal a fitness fanatic consumes will have protein in it. You can't build the muscle without the protein.

Eating every two to four hours will keep your metabolism high so that your body is constantly burning calories. This means that some serious fitness fanatics will cook their food a week in advance and eat out of plastic bags when on the go! We even weigh our food to the ounce to keep our proportions in check.

Fitness fanatics often face temptations. Many times we have to put down the ice cream, and pick up the asparagus. Rizzo says, "It's a lifestyle of sacrifices." There are plenty of monetary sacrifices too! The trainer fees, supplements, competition fees, suit, heels, even the hair, nails, and spray tan cause competitors to drop over $2,000 per show!

But why journey down such a regimented road? A healthy body leads to a healthy mind with improved focus. And let's not forget about the sense of accomplishment and feeling of confidence you walk away with. Plus, the muscle strength comes in handy with daily activities like hauling groceries home. Rizzo says, "In the end to me it's all worth it because I can take my body somewhere it's never been before."

Guys may be able to pump it, but females are right here with them!
